I recently read an article on the British newspaper 'The Times' entitled "Britain at highest risk from avian flu pandemic". The article said that 'The Times' got its information from a risk calculation, carried out by a company called Maplecroft, and so I decided to research the subject online. I downloaded the entire list of country ratings, and found that Malta was placed in the category labelled "Extreme Risk", along with countries like the U.K, China and Nigeria. In fact, according to Maplecroft, Malta is rated as the 6th-highest-risk country in the world of a Bird-flu outbreak, if the avian virus starts passing from person to person.
