English: Antonio Sciortino, Bust of American pianist and composer Leo Tecktonius, made in Paris in 1910-1911 - cf. p.26

"Plastiline mask of Leo Tectonius, American pianist and composer. This musician was born in 1882 in Racine, Wisconsin, and at a very young age had already started to direct concerts. Indeed, in 1902, when he was still twenty years old, it was reported that a concert would be held "under the direction of Leo Tectonius" (Racine Daily Journal, 10 July 1902). Sometimes in his performances he was assisted by his sister (Racine Daily Journal, 13 November 1907). He performed not only in America, but also in Europe. That he performed in Paris is reported by Racine Journal-News (April 26, 1915); "Racine honors its celebrated pianist as he has performed in the largest cities of the United State, in London, Paris, and other European ... " On the back of the photo there is an inscription in Portuguese: 'Estudo de Cabe~a ( executado en 20 minutos-Paris': in translation Study of a head, executed in 20 minutes, Paris). It is also accompanied by an inscription in English: 'American composer and pianist 1919 Leo Tectonius: The date would appear to be wrong because, if what Sciortino had said about Rodin, seeing this head and liking it so much that he wanted to see him, whence a relationship was established (Sciortino 1947b), it could not have been in 1919 because Rodin had already been dead for two years. Sciortino must have executed it some time before 1914 since the mask was published in Emporium (Lancellotti 1914: 255) the Italian art magazine, wherein the author writes very favourably about it: "il giovane maltese che di questi giorni ha vinto, in un importantissimo concorso internazionale il monumento al poeta russo Shevchenko da inaugurarsi a Kiev, ha una vigorosa testa, il ritratto, cioe del pianista nordamericano Leo Tectonius, un'impressione eseguita rapidamente e largamente" (Lancellotti 1914: 253). This author thus underlines that Sciortino executed the mask rapidly and spontaneously without further elaboration."

"[...]Antonio Sciortino - il giovane scultore maltese, che di questi giorni ha vinto, in un importantissimo concorso internazionale, il monumento al poeta russo Schevtscenko, da inaugurarsi a Kiew — ha una vigorosa testa, il ritratto, cioè, del pianista nord-americano Leo Tecktonius, un' impressione eseguita rapidamente e largamente."
