English: E. Caruana Dingli, Portrait of Sir Themistocles Zammit (1864-1935) painted against a dark red background, with the University crest in the upper left corner. Dr Themistocles Zammit was one of the key persons to promote Maltese archaeology in the early 20th century. He was a doctor by profession and he was the first curator of The Valletta Museum, which had opened in 1903. He was also instrumental in discovering how the virus which caused undulant fever, also known as Maltese fever was transmitted, through the milk of goats. In 1930, King George V had bestowed upon him the title of Sir.
